First time playing ichiban kuji

Actually I heard about Ichiban kuji before but had never tried playing it till now. In Japan, kimetsu no yaiba’s merchandise are selling like hot cakes and they even had a restriction of maximum 5 tickets per person for this kuji thing. To celebrate the movie, there is this Ichiban kuji Mugen train collection and we decided to try our luck buying this.
In total, we bought 12 tickets each costing $13 SGD, a total of $156 which I split with Hubby. Hubby bought the kuji tickets online and the draw was shown live on Facebook. It was so exciting....haha...the person will call out the name of the buyer and then he will draw the tickets and open them on the spot.
We bought the tickets from this website
qishan which Hubby frequently bought his games from.

This particular kuji was quite popular maybe because the chance of getting a good prize is better (less rubbish) I was hoping for Prize C but ended up getting prize A instead. Not bad not bad....at least still manage to get figurines. I also managed to get 3 prize I which are the super cute mini figurines.

In addition, I also got 2 cups, 5 rubber straps and 1 prize H which consist of 2 mini notebooks which can be chosen...but sadly dun have Tomioka design liao...
It’s ok, at least I manage to have a Tomioka’s rubber strap. Think we have a lot of Rengoku’s luck since most of it are his stuff, like Prize A, 2 Rengoku’s rubber straps and 1 Rengoku’s cup.
Overall, it’s really fun and addictive. The next time I went Japan, I definitely wana buy kuji there! Much cheaper in Japan compared to Singapore. Sighz.....wonder when can I ever go again....😞

Winter Solstice & the Great Conjecture 21 Dec 2020

Today, 21 Dec 2020 is the winter solstice which marks the longest night and shortest day in the norther hemisphere. To me, winter solstice simply means 冬至 which means it’s time to eat dumplings, ζ±€εœ†! Coincidentally, today also marks the day where the Great Conjecture happens tonight where Jupiter and Saturn overlaps in the night sky.
Jupiter and Saturn typically aligned in the sky once every 20 years. What makes this year event so rare is that, it’s been 400 years since the planets passed this close (0.1 degree apart) and 800 years since this alignment occurred at night, meaning the last time humans saw Jupiter and Saturn being 0.1 degree apart was 800 years ago.
This event can be seen by everyone on Earth.

The two planets will seem to appear as an elongated star or also known as the Xmas Star in the sky.
Sadly, I don’t see anything from my window due to light pollution and clouds....πŸ™

Cafe de Nicole’s flower

Happened to chance upon this cafe while bringing my dog to the vet and what a gem in a hole it was!
It’s a pet friendly and v instagramable cafe.

Currently they are having this Xmas theme decorations.

Guess Poochi also likes this place too. He kept flashing his 5 stars smile the whole time.

Lucky we are able to get a corner seat so it’s easier with a dog.

The food they served are all so instagramable! Well, they taste pretty good as well. The waffles are soft and chewy. We ordered the charcoal waffles with chocolate ice cream. I saved some blueberries and strawberries for Poochi....haha...

We also ordered the matcha soufflΓ© pancake. It’s so jigglery and tastewise, it’s definitely comparable to places like Tamago-en or fluff stacks which I tried before. Price wise it’s also pretty reasonable at $16.90.

To round it off, we ordered this pink lady drink which was lychee and rose. It’s made of lychee purΓ©e with some dried rose petals on top. Taste mainly lychee with a light rose aftertaste. Nice drink, not too sweet.
Overall, would definitely come again next time to try some other dishes.

Omakase Burger & Tarte by Cheryl Koh

Omakase Burger recently opened a new joint at level 4 of Orchard Central. U can order food from both Omakase Burger menu and Super Greek menu since they are both under the same company.

I ordered the off peak special, express cheeseburger set since it’s only available during the weekday and top up extra for garlic fries and a soft drink.

Ta-da~! I was expecting garlic powder on my fries but instead they came with real fried pieces of garlic. I chose well done for my beef patty and it was juicy and tender. The beef patty was v flavorful, maybe slightly on the salty side but I quite like it.
Hubby ordered something from Super Greek, lamb gyro which is basically a lamb kebab but sliced pieces of lamb, it was a minced lamb patty.

The pita bread was chewy and crispy and the white sourish yogurt dressing just made it taste more appetizing and yummy.
There was someone going around offering $15 off your total bill by installing this app from NTUC income called snacks. It’s quite troublesome but heck, it’s $15 off so that’s quite worth the effort. In the end, we only pay $20+ for our meals.

I have heard from Tarte by Cheryl Koh but had never tried it. So, we went to Shaw Center to check out the place. Located on the second floor in an obscure corner of Shaw Center, it was a cozy little cafe where u can sit down and enjoy a drink. Tried the melon and rose cold brew tea. It was so good! It did not have those artificial melon taste, instead it had a light mellow taste of melon followed by the rose taste. It simply taste and smell so natural, the only cons is it’s so little and expensive.
Anyway, we bought 3 tarts to try:

Starting from the left- dark chocolate $8, Korean shine muscat $13 and blackberry $13.
Conclusion: the dark chocolate tart was normal. The Korean shine muscat grapes was sweet and juicy. The blackberries imported from France was normal, not as sweet as I expected. Overall, I think their tarts are not bad, except the prices are on the steep side. Currently they only have a few variety of tarts for sale, they did not have lemon meringue tart which is my fave. Maybe it’s seasonal? Would I get it again? Hmmm....I’m not sure since I can get much cheaper and equally delicious tarts elsewhere...but I would love to get that melon and rose cold brew drink again...haha...

US Presidential Election 2020 πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

This year seems to the year where almost every countries are having some elections and the most anticipated one is the US Presidential election.
Frankly speaking, I don’t like that Trump coz he talks like the most blatantly shameless person ever. I’m surprise to see so many Americans supported him despite that, maybe becoz they thought he is a man of action who can get things done unlike politicians who only talks but do nothing? Ya, I do agree that actions speak louder than words but for the President of the United States, your word speaks louder than action. His words alone is powerful enough to stir unrest, chaos and influence many ppl in this world. He is always mocking, taunting or bragging....makes me cringe whenever he opens his mouth to talk. Totally zero substance zero inspiration, so unlike past US presidents, eg Obama.
Congratulations to Joe Biden and Kamala Harris for winning the election and may the world be heading towards a better direction under their leadership.

Rilakkuma Cafe at Orchard Central

Decided to pop by Rilakkuma Cafe located at Orchard Central level 4. It was previously Pompom Purim cafe.

There was hardly much crowd at the cafe so I was hesitant to try out until now. So happen that I was going orchard on Sat to collect something so might as well pop by.

There was no queue on a Saturday lunchtime and we just walked in. Not a good sign for weekend....

We were seated at this side table with 2 cute plushies on it. Ooh...so cute but I tried not to touch it coz who knows how many grubby hands had touched them already.

The menu were accessible thru a QR code which u scanned on your phone.

Sad looking bear sitting at a corner....

I ordered the chirpy kiiroitori beef stew rice. Hmm....the chicken looks bit distorted but never mind, maybe it taste better than it looks? I was wrong....it tasted worse than it looked....🀒
The carrots were raw and dry looking and the beef was as tough as leather....seriously I don’t think I have ever eaten beef as tough and chewy as the ones here. How did they even make it so tough?! In the end, I gave up after chewing one piece of beef. It was so bad πŸ˜–

Hubby ordered the kawaii rilakkuma salmon rice. It was edible, unlike mine.

The last dish I ordered was this rilakkuma dango baos with sweet matcha. The baos were dry and the sweet matcha fillings inside just taste like green coloured tao sa to me, nothing matcha at all.
Overall, the rilakkuma cafe in Singapore was a disappointment. Do not go for the mains. I noticed many ppl only ordered desserts or drinks. Maybe they will taste better, I mean it’s harder to screw up on sweets and drinks compare to mains. I wish they can improve on their food if they still wana be around coz it’s going to be bye bye soon for them if the food still don’t improve.

Demon Slayer Movie Fan Screening

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Movie-Mugen Train is finally here in Singapore after more than a year wait for it!!! 😍😍
I had been waiting for it since it’s sneak preview after the end of first season which ended in Oct last year. It was supposed to air somewhere in Jan this year but was postphoned due to covid. It was finally aired in Japan’s cinemas on 16th Oct 2020 and broken box office records in Japan as the first film to rake in over $10 billlions within 10 days of its opening!

The first day of its screening in Singapore was on 7 Nov. Tickets were snapped up as soon as it was released online a few weeks ago and I did not manage to get GV max in vivo...πŸ˜“...the next earlier timeslot is at 3.25pm at Plaza Sing. The fan screening ticket was $54 each and it came with a goodie bag containing a tee shirt, A4 file holder, badges and posters.

There were 2 designs for the tee shirts and we can chose which one we want. Of course, Hubby chosed Tanjiro and mine was Nezuko....haha...the quality of the tee-shirt material was quite good and there were several sizes to choose from. This was a great improvement from the fan screening of Boku no hero academia where the only sizes of the tee shirts left were XL coz many ppl came and claimed their goodie bags way before the show started. Think Odex learnt their lesson and controlled the distribution coz now u can only collect the goodie bags 1 hr before ur movie screening.

The large movie poster card-out at GV plaza sing.
The crowd was significantly lesser for such a fan screening as compared to before, due to covid measures. Seats were well spaced apart with nobody sitting 2 seats next to, behind and in front of you. Actually, I quite like it coz I can put my bags on the seats next to me, and nobody will be kicking my seat from behind or blocking my view in front. Yeah....
Spoilers alert- Rengoku looks damn cool in his final stance before releasing his ultimate move. Although he eventually died, I did not feel sad or cry as I feel he died a v honorably death and did such a great job protecting 200 over lives in the train and kick the upper 3rd demon’s ass so badly he had to flee. However, I do feel it’s such a shame that he died...
The movie was action packed from beginning to the end with no recap in the beginning. There was an additional scene not from the manga where the leader of the demon slayer Corps was walking thru the cemetery. Other than that, it followed v closely to the manga. Can wait for season 2 to start next year!

Joy Luck Teahouse’s egg tarts

Finally get to try the egg tarts from Joy Luck Teahouse, thks to my mom for getting it for me....haha...

There are 2 types of egg tarts, the shortbread crust type shown on top and the puff flaky pastry shell shown on the bottom.
For me, I prefer the shortcrust shell as there is a nice buttery aroma when I bite into it. Can tell that they used some good quality butter for it. The taste was v buttery and soft, almost like a butter cookie. Hands down, my fave crust for egg tart.

Dolc pattiserie, Fleurdesel & good coffee

Today was hubby’s birthday and I took leave from work to celebrate this special day for him.

Starting with breakfast, I got him the passion fruit meringue and Charlotte from Dolc pattiserie
Their best seller was the beautiful red Charlotte made of strawberry, basil and mascarpone. The taste was truely unique with strawberry, and a hint of basil which surprisingly seem to work well together. The outer mascarpone layer was creamy and light and covered with a thin red chocolate shell. However for me and hubby, we preferred the passionfruit meringue as we like the texture of the tart and the  passionfruit taste which goes well with coffee.
For lunch, I made a reservation at fleurdesel, a French restaurant which we had never tried before but happen to chance upon it while we were at Baristart coffee and it was just opposite.

For its set lunch, there are 2 types:

The 4 course set lunch at $58++ per person or the 3 course set lunch at $48++ per person. Hubby took the 3 course excutive set lunch as he likes eating lamb while I took the 4 course set lunch.

We were both served this light paste-like dish which were not inside the menu and was supposed to cleanse our palettes, together with some sourdough bread. There are 2 types of sea salts which came from France, available for us to try. The dark coloured sea salt was infused with tomatoes and the other was infused with rosemary

For my first dish, it’s the pan seared duck liver with some figs on the side. It was so good! The outer layer was seared to a crispy and light texture without being overcook and the inside was soft and buttery without the organ smell. Hubby tried some and he said it was better than the ones he tried in France.
Hubby said he love his lamb main dish as it was v well cooked. The meat was v tender but not bloody at all. For me, I don’t eat lamb so I din try it.
For my main dish, I chose the la bouillabaisse which was prawns, squid, scallops, potatoes etc. It looked v pretty and the seafood was v fresh.

Hubby’s dessert was the la baba which was dark rum baba with vanilla whipped cream and passionfruit.

Initially, it did not look appealing to me as I thought it was too heavy and filling with the huge sponge cake and the big lump of whipped cream. But when we tasted it, we were blown away by how good it was! The alcoholic smell from the rum was quite strong but when we bite into the sponge, which was totally soaked with the dark rum, it dun have any of the strong alcohol taste at all. Instead, it had a pleasantly sweet taste and goes well with the light whipped cream and the citrusy passionfruit. It’s so addictive that it was gone before I even know it. Learnt a new French dessert word today and it’s La Baba......definitely a must try!

The restaurant was quite small so it’s recommended to make a reservation. It was full house today. Half of the guests were Caucasians. The owner and French chef, Alexandre Lazachmeur was there as well cooking and manning the open kitchen. Good quality authentic French food, highly recommended.
After a satisfying good lunch, we drop by five oars coffee roaster for coffee to perk ourselves up from drowsy food coma.
We had never tried this coffee joint but it was always packed with ppl whenever we passed by.

Ordered their house blend ice white. At first sip, it instantly reminds me of arabica coffee, another coffee joint which was always packed with ppl. The taste was v similar but hubby said the aftertaste was more balanced as compared to arabica. Arabica was nice but bit expensive, so now I know where to get my coffee fix at a cheaper price. Their house blend coffee beans are available for sale at 200g for $16.

Hubby wanted to visit the National Museum of Singapore after all that food. It’s been a long long time since we came here. There are hardly anyone around since there are no more to tourists due to covid-19.
Admission was free today not because we are Singaporeans but because today happens to be the 133th anniversary of the museum and it’s open house day.  Kinda sad coz if it wasn’t for this pandemic, there  will sure be many ppl and a lot of events happening.

We went there mainly for the exhibition: Story of the Forest digital display created by TeamLab.

Check out one of the videos from the exhibitions.

New BBT in town-Happy Cup

Happy Cup from Taiwan has finally opened today after many months of delay due to covid-19. It is located on the second floor of 100am mall. Today was the first day of their opening and I was lucky to chance upon it.

We ordered the osmanthus Oolong tea which was one of their recommended drinks and a sun moon lake black tea with cream top.

We waited around 20 mins for our drinks....πŸ˜… coz the staffs was having problems with the machines as it was the first day of operation. Lucky we were not in a rush or anything and there was a place to sit and rest at the store.

It has a sitting capacity of around 10 ppl, I guess. Noticed they also have a self ordering machine but it was not on and the menu LCD monitor screens on top at the ordering area were not on either. Hope they can sort out their operations kinks soon.

Our drinks after 20 mins wait.... I really like their osmanthus oolong drink as it was v refreshing and the osmanthus taste was v strong. There was a tinge of mint also. Would definitely get that again especially in Singapore hot and humid weather.
Noticed after a short while, the shop closed their lights and had to stop operation. I suspect they are having problems with the machine making the drinks....Poor happy cup, not a good start on their first day of operation.
